2010 NSW International Cycling GP.
A three man team of sprinter Rico Rodgers, leadout man Blair Windsor, and new signing Brendan Cole contested the inaugural NSW International Grand Prix Cycling Series for Team Budget Forklifts. Sadly the team had lost the services of current Queensland Criterium Champ Mat Wood before the start of the event with a prior commitment, however still managed to hold quite a profile during the 5 race series which started in Bathurst on the 8th December.
Having just finished the National Series in third place behind big budget domestic teams Genesys and Drapac Professional Cycling, Team Budget Forklifts were eager to test themselves against some of the world’s best professional cycling teams including Katusha (Russia), FDJ.com (France), Hollands Robobank team, American based teams Garmin and Radio Shack, Britain’s Team Sky and Rapha Condor Sharp.
After having star Sprinter Rico Rodgers in the Top Ten Overall for the entire five round, the speedy New Zealander slipped to 11 on general classification in the final round in Cronulla behind eventual series winner Chris Sutton of Garmin transitions Pro Cycling team. With both Rico and Blair Windsor riding very aggressively at the front of the race, the team was always in the action in the top quality field, while new boy Brendan Cole took plenty from his first taste of pro racing, improving steadily through the series, gaining plenty and certainly showing glimpses his power in the series.
Team Budget Forklifts now preparing for the traditional Aussie Professional Cycling start to the year at the 2011 Bay Classic in Geelong.
