Cantwell claims another win, but young Tasmanian Ben Grenda takes the overall

The 2010 Goulburn to Citi (or more specifically stage 2 of the 2010 Paradice Goulburn to Citi 2 Day Cycle Classic) ended up the expected high strategy team race with the events highest profile rider Jonathan Cantwell winning the sprint between the teams protected riders in Camden at the end of the famous 170km from Goulburn to the Big Smoke.
In pre event planning a number of the teams had had gambled on the early break stealing the race, so it was no surprise to see teams such as Genesys, McDonagh Blake, Shortis, Bike Bug and Search2Retain attack right from the start.
However while Alex Malone (Bike Bug) in the lead bunch was wrapping up the Sprint Jersey and climbers Cameron Peterson (Virgin), Adam Phelan (McDough Blake) and Chris Jory (Shortis) where setting themselves for the ascent up Razorback; the big continental teams in the peloton where organising the chase.
Pre stage favourites Fly V, Drapac Porsche, Budget Forklifts, Jayco Skins had all missed the move opting to fully protect their lead riders, whom were expected to ride across to the leaders on Razorback before sprinting it out up Argyle Street. Certainly given the quality of the break-away, the Peloton where getting nervous when the lead got out to almost 4 minutes, but with each of the sprint teams putting riders on the front, (Darren ROLFE, (Fly V), Ethan KIMMINCE (Drapac Porsche) , Joshua PRETE (Budget Forklifts) Aaron DONNELLY (Jayco Skins) the fast moving front bunch started losing time. When Cantwell and Lang sent Hayden BROOKS (Fly V), Alex CARVER (Jayco Skins) to the front to assist further with the chase, (plus some occasional help from the likes of former National Champion Peter McDonald (Drapac Porsche)) the leaders were in trouble.
Hardman Cameron Peterson (Virgin Blue /BBS Morgans) took the King of the mountains honours but soon after the what was left of the peloton took over the lead and the scene was set for the sprint into Camden.
Jono Cantwell (Fly V) showing why he has had so much success in the USA this year with a powerful dash to take the stage, with Richie Lang (Jayco Skins) a gallant second and Genesys next rising star Ben Grenda third just infront of  Virgin Blue /BBS Morgans leader Pat Shaw and Budget Forklifts protected rider Blair Windsor.
Also finishing in the top ten in the historic road stage, sprinter Scott Law (Fly V) and Drapac Porche’s Rhys Pollock who after good prologues on day 1, finished second and third on the event overall classification behind Tasmanian Ben Grenda who won the 2 day classic with a third place in the prologue behind brothers Scott and Jackson Law and his podium finish in the famous road stage.
