






























2010 Smoke Free Perth Criterium Series
With some outstanding racing in the past this years Smoke Free Perth Criterium Series looks set to again give the Western Australians some exciting cycle action starting on the 5th February 2010 and continuing to monday 8th Feburary.
With past winners Jono Cantwell (V Australia) in 2009 and Adam Semple defeating national champs Travis Meyer and Cameron Meyer in 2008 the event has generated plenty of hype.
Race 1 City of Joondalup
A big crowd is expected for the series opener at Joondalup, with Spectators able to view the action from the tables at the many surrounding restaurants and cafes on the circuit on Grand Boulevard at the City of Joondalup. Racing getting underway at 6:00pm.
Race 2 City of Perth Northbridge criterium
Saturday the racing moves to the Northbridge Piazza in the City of Perth Northbridge criterium (06/02/10) starting at 3.00pm, with the day pushing and environment friendly focus, with the Piazza showing some eco friendly films after the racing.
Race 3 City of Victoria Park
Day 3 moves to the popular café area of Victoria Park (Sunday 07/02/10) for a 4.00pm start, this course considered the most difficult in the series with a couple of tricky bends and a small hill and is certain to have a impact on the overall placegetters, which is decided from accumulating points from placing in the top ten each day
Race 4 Town of Vincent Leederville Criterium
The Series concludes with the Town of Vincent Leederville Criterium (Monday 08/02/10), which is considered a very cyclist friendly part of Perth. The new format in the support events will see 2 finals organised for the largest ever support event field. The B final starting at 6.45pm followed by the A support race final then the Elite men’s event.



Budget Forklifts Team for 2010 Smoke Free Perth Criterium Series.
In race news high profile Oceania Continental team Budget Forklifts have been dealt a blow going into the 2010 Smoke Free Perth Criterium Series, with inform criterium specialist Doug Repacholi suffering a serious leg injury, forcing him out of the series. After top 10 finishes in the recent Bay Classic and the Nationals at Ballarat, the West Aussie’s spot in the Budget forklifts team (consisting of Blair Windsor (NSW), Matt Wood, Peter Herzig (Old)) looked a difficult position to fill. However team Director Jeremy Betts was quickly on the job securing U23 National Criterium Champion Daniel Braunstiens for the series.









Race PREVIEW
The 2010 Smoke Free Perth Criterium Series boasts the form riders of the Australian Summer with recent National Road Champ Travis Meyer and National Time trial champion Cameron Meyer leading the list of starters in the Elite Mens Teams race. Add to that the first stage winner of this years Jayco Bay Classic Graeme Brown (Atomic Brooks) and the winner of the u23 National Criterium Championship Daniel Braunsteins (Budget Fork Lifts) plus 2008 winner Adam Semple racing for Plan B and the scene is set for some action on the streets of Perth.
Other riders and team to watch include NZ international Logan Hutchings (BikeSure) who will be looking for a nice start to the season after spending last season in Europe with Cinelli
Arbitrage also look solid with another local legend in Eddy Hollands teaming up with Steve Hedley Michael Verheyen and Jordan Van Der Togt who is local star on the track as well as the road
Black Dog Racing Team will race with a dual focus to perform and to raise money and awareness of depression with team member Philip Riemann suffering from bipolar disorder. Reimann is an accomplished cyclist will ride with legendary local master Hilton Mcmurdo, Stephen Gallagher and Carlo Barendilla who certainly has plenty of speed having raced for Australia on the track in South Africa in the Tri Nations
Race 1 - City of Joondalup Criterium 5/02/10.
Garmin sensation Cam Meyer riding for Cyclemania has won round 1 of the 2010 Smokefree Perth Criteriums defeating Australian U23 Champion Daniel Braunstein riding for Budget Forklifts. The pair breaking clear and almost lapping the field as their team mates took control of the peloton which included sprinter Graeme Brown (Atomic Brooks) who clearly was keen for a bunch gallop.
With position in the top ten all counting for the overall there was plenty of interest in the minor placings. Plan B pulling off a nice move in the final laps to get Anthony Giacoppo away to steal third off the Peloton, with sprinters Graeme Brown (Atomic Brooks) and Carlo Barendillo (Black Dog Racing) leading home the bunch.
However all honours with Cyclemania taking the win and seventh with Travis Meyer and Budget Forklifts who finished with 3 in the top 10.

Race 2 City of Perth Northbridge criterium
With most of the riders nevious that a Meyer break would go in race 2 of the Smokefree Perth Criteriumseries, it pretty much ment that the race would end in a bunch sprint. Plenty of breaks tried but a nervoius peloton kept chasing and the sprinters got their wish with a bunch sprint to decide the placings. As expected Graeme Brown won the event form the another recognised speedster Carlo Barendillo of Black Dog Racing.

Race 3 City of Victoria Park
Travis Meyer (Cyclemania) has set up a exciting climax to the 2010 Smokefree Perth Criterium Series by winning stage 3 of the series at Victoria Park, WA. Series leader Graeme Brown will now go to the final stage at Vincent having to contend with both the Meyer Brothers challenging for the win, plus Daniel Braunstein 5th pacing in the stage also putting the Budget forklifts in contention. Other to finish in the top ten included Anthony Giacoppo New Zealand international Logan Hutchins, Hilton McMurdo, Brad Hall and Blair Windsor again in the top 10.

Race 4 Town of Vincent Leederville Criterium
The local riders upstaged the contract cyclist in the final stage of the 2010 Smokefree Perth Criterium Series. Perth veterans Hilton McMurdo and Eddy Hollands jumped clear in the final laps of the stage with Anthony Giacoppo and Andrew Sime to steal the stage from the peloton where Graeme Brown was locked in battle with the Meyer Brothers and Budget Forklift’s Daniel Braunstein for the overall series. At the finish Anthony Giacoppo took the win lifting him to second overall behind Brown who won the bunch gallop to seal the overall victory.
